a place reserved for the loveliest person I know
on the loveliest day of the week.
Ever since I started blogging, I knew I wanted this to be an authentic space. A space that I could look back on, and know that it showed me at my most honest. A space that blended all the things that bring me joy, and laughter, and warmth.
And if I am being truly honest, the heartbeat of my years, and months, and minutes comes largely from one person - my younger sister, Nikki.
So, it is no surprise that, if I want this little corner of the internet to truly stand for who I am, Nikki has to be involved in some capacity. And by "some capacity" I mean - Nikki gets her own, VIP section, cut to the front of the line, corner within my little corner, saved just for her and her alone so don't even try to sit here. |As if a corner could hold all the spunk, and light, and sparkle that this lady has to offer.|
So, I present to you something that has been in the works for a long time - Sister Sunday!
Our hopes for this blog series is that every Sunday, our favorite day of the week that also happens to provide phenomenal alliteration |hell-o!|, you will get a little peak into our world. We can't promise that it will be perfect or well-orchestrated. All we can promise is that it will be authentic and, hopefully, a little entertaining, with a few embarrassing pictures from our past for good measure. It will be our canvas to share with you all things we love - brunch, and Jesus, and wine, and shopping, and laughter and, most of all, each other!
Come on back every Sunday for your weekly dose of The Domesticated Dutch-ish & her sis. Don't want to miss a single laugh, tear, story, or wine pour? Be sure to subscribe! The right-hand panel is your friend - subscribe by email, with the subscribe link, or add Domesticated Dutch-ish to your blog roll. Follow us on Instagram with the hashtag #SisterSundaySeries, too - we'd love to have you!
Without further ado, I give you the Sister Sunday Premiere:
An Interview With Nikki
Welcome to Domesticated Dutch-ish! So excited to be starting this recurring post with you - you just totally upped my blog's "cool factor". I think the best way to start off our Sister Sunday Series is to give the readers a glimpse into who you are and what you bring to the table. I have had the privilege of getting to know you over the last 20-some years so, logically, it makes sense to cram all of that knowledge into one post. Les' do this.
What about Sister Sunday makes you most excited?
Well... if I am being honest... it is that it forces us to hang out every Sunday. I'm not diggin' the whole "we can't live together anymore just because you have a husband thing".
What skills and talents do you bring to the blog?
I'm really passionate about design - I like making things look pretty and put together. When people look at my work and tell me they love it, but can't put their finger on why - that to me is a design success. I hope to add that to your space. Also, I will bring the wine. |Fine, you can stay|
Speaking of design, you have a pretty kick butt job. Can you tell us about it?
I have the pleasure of working as an interior designer at the amazing, national design firm of Artisan Design Group. Basically, that's a fancy way of saying I get to make big, million-dollar model homes, that I will never be able to afford to live in myself, look exactly how I would want them to look if I could afford to live in them.
So cool! You really do have a knack for making things look great - including yourself. You are so fashionable! What are some of your top tips for helping women feel confident in their wardrobe selections?
Well, first off, I never give a crap about what the peanut gallery has to say or think about my outfit choices. That, itself, really boosts my confidence in what I choose to wear.
I would also say, follow the trends, but not to the "T" - make them your own. Everyone can have their own approach to the same trend.
I am a self-proclaimed "Maxxinista". TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack, Gordmans - pretty much anywhere that I don't have to pay full price is my go-to. Don't be fooled into thinking that style only comes at a high sticker price.
And definitely don't be afraid to be bold.
Obviously you have mastered the art of style. However, being your sister, and wanting to be honest with our readers, I know that hasn't always been the case. Enlighten us on one of your biggest childhood fashion faux pas.
Honestly, there have been so many it could really be its own Sister Sunday entirely. But, if I had to pick the worst offender it would have to be the days of squeezing into those god-awful, tissue paper thin, expensive-as-hell Abercrombie graphic tee's paired with the barely-there jean cut-offs. And don't forget the thick black eyeliner, remnant of raccoon eyes along with the slicked-back pony so tight it gave you the insta-face lift. Early 2000's, never again.

Told you 2000 wasn't our year - those accessories need to be burned along with that ridiculous "gang" sign. |
While I, too, was guilty of that same fashion crime, we are very different people. How can readers expect to see this?
Well, first off, this is probably your only post to-date with cuss words in it (sorry mom, but you know my mouth!). I am definitely the louder, more in-your-face sister. Not that we like to boil ourselves down to TV characters but, the best way I can think to describe us is - I'm more the cray-cray Khloe Kardashian type where you are more sweet, type-A Charlotte from Sex in the City. This, people, is why we are unstoppable. I give you courage while you give me sanity. I give you fashion advice while you give me advice on how to be an adult (I swear, I am almost there). We really are a dynamic duo and I can't wait for the readers to see more!

So, this is as close to knowing my phenomenal sister as you can get in a one page post. Be sure to come back on the Sundays to follow to learn who we are as individuals and as your very own Modern Day Olsen Twins - just less famished and homeless looking.

What happened to the good ol' days of "Holiday in the Sun" & "Billboard Dad"? |
